PictureSharon Grand, Ph.D., BCN
Sharon Grand, Ph.D., BCN is the President and Owner of Wavelengths Psychology.  She started work in private practice in 2009, after spending over a decade practicing psychology in a variety of settings including hospitals, rehabilitation centers, crisis outreach, and schools.  Her expertise includes individual therapy, neurofeedback, couples, and family counseling with clients throughout the life span.    Dr. Grand received her Bachelor's degree from SUNY Purchase and her Ph.D. from Auburn University.  She attended internship at South Oaks Hospital and a post doctoral fellowship in Neuropsychology and Rehabilitation at Mt. Sinai.  She specializes in the treatment of ADHD, depression, anxiety, trauma, relationships, and parenting.  She is also an expert witness for the Office of Social Security.  Dr. Grand was trained in psychodynamic and cognitive-behavioral therapy approaches, and utilizes both frameworks in her treatment.

PictureShari Karp, LCSW
Shari Karp, LCSW is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. She has been practicing on Long Island since 1996. Ms. Karp has extensive therapy experience with children, adolescents and adults dealing with diverse issues including substance abuse, depression, anxiety, relationship issues, behavioral modification, and children with special needs.  She works with multiple modalities, including individual, couples, and family counseling.  Ms. Karp  has developed residential programs for people with disabilities and provides clinical and administrative supervision to program staff.

Ginger Mencher, LCSW is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over 35 years experience providing clinical services in a variety of mental health settings.  In addition, she has 30 years of experience in her role as a school social worker for the Wantagh Middle School. Her expertise includes adolescents and adults with school issues, acting out behaviors, peer relationships, family problems and drug and alcohol prevention. Ms. Mencher was the director of the Wantagh Parent Center for fourteen years and for twenty years offered parenting classes for parents of middle school children.

​Michele Borget-De Vos, MA, LCSW-R is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker as well as a Certified School Social Worker with more than 20 years of professional experience in a variety of settings. Her experience in both clinical and school-based settings includes the provision of individual therapy, group therapy, couples and family counseling to a diverse range of clients, including adults, adolescents, and children. Specialties include: adolescent and child issues, parent training and support, separation/divorce/blended families, depression, anxiety, ADHD, stress management, impulse control/anger management, conflict resolution, social skills and self-esteem building.  Ms. Borget-De Vos graduated with a Masters degree in Clinical Psychology from Loyola University in 1992 and obtained a second Masters degree in Social Work from Adelphi University in 1999. She obtained her License as a Master of Social Work in 1999 and in 2005 her license in Clinical Social Work; in 2008 her permanent School Certification; and in 2012 the R psychotherapy privilege. She utilizes several modalities including psychodynamic, interpersonal and  cognitive-behavioral therapy depending on assessed needs. Her work incorporates a client-centered and goal-oriented perspective in a professional and supportive environment.

Stephanie Lauer, M.S., CASAC-T, MHC Permit Holder. Ms. Lauer obtained a Master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling and is working under a limited permit. She is also working on obtaining her CASAC (Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor). She specializes in physical, emotional, learning, and developmental disabilities and has advocated for this population for many years. Ms. Lauer has written articles about disabilities and provides presentations on the topic. She has experience with a wide array of challenges including but not limited to learning disabilities, ADHD, chronic illness, anxiety, substance abuse disorders, and personality disorders. Ms. Lauer also has in depth knowledge of social security programs including SSI and other benefits. She has extensive training in dialectical behavior therapy, a form of therapy that focuses on distress tolerance, emotional regulation, social skills training, and mindfulness.  In addition to CBT and solution focused therapies, Ms. Lauer utilizes creative techniques such as sand-tray therapy and drawing which often help clients to relax and open up more easily.

PictureCathy Menzies, LCSW
Cathy Menzies, LCSW is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who is passionate about helping others to improve their personal lives and relationships. She provides effective counseling to children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families. Ms. Menzies specializes in helping others find the balance of caring for themselves and their loved ones.  She began her career 20 years ago, working  as a caseworker, clinician, and then as an administrator of a large not-for-profit child and family residential agency. She has served as a Forensic expert for NY Family and Supreme Courts and practiced  and supervised clinical staff in a special education school, community mental health program and a hospital treatment program. In addition to private practice, Ms. Menzies works as an Adjunct professor , clinical supervisor and consultant.  Her treatment speciaities include Trauma/PTSD recovery, Anxiety/ Depression, Grief and loss, Family Conflict, and Relationship issues. Her therapeutic approach combines concepts from EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), solution focused treatment and a cognitive behavioral framework. Ms. Menzies holds a Master’s degree in Clinical Social Work from Fordham University, a certificate from South Oaks Institute of Alcoholism and Addictive Behavior, and is a Reiki practitioner.   

PictureAbra Walter, Ph.D.
​Dr. Abra Walter is a licensed psychologist with over twenty five years of professional experience.  She received her Bachelor’s Degree form the University of Pennsylvania and her Psy.D. in Clinical Psychology from Yeshiva University.  Dr. Walter completed an internship at Schneider (now Cohen) Children’s Hospital of Long Island Jewish Medical Center.  She has worked in many different settings ranging from pre-school through geriatric, with a particular focus on adolescents.  Dr. Walter utilizes an eclectic approach to treatment, believing that therapy needs to be as individualized as the people participating in it.​

PictureJoanna Suppa, LCSW
Joanna Suppa, LCSW earned her degree from Fordham University in 2008 with a specialization in clinical social work and a concentration in children and families. She is experienced with treating adults, adolescents, and children experiencing depression, anxiety, substance abuse, work related stress, family problems, trauma, and legal issues.  Her expertise also includes children with attention difficulties, acting out behaviors, self-harm behaviors, and autistic spectrum disorders. Ms. Suppa utilizes CBT as well as supportive, insight oriented therapies.  Her goal is to provide professional, supportive counseling and education in a caring environment that promotes growth and change.

PictureMichael Avigliano, Psy.D.
Michael Avigliano, Psy.D.  received both his Master’s and Doctoral degrees from St. John’s University and his Bachelor’s degree from St. Joseph’s College.   He is experienced in both school and clinical modalities and has a background in psychoeducational and neuropsychological testing as well as clinical therapy with individuals and groups.  Dr. Avigliano utilizes a cognitive behavioral therapy approach with clients across the life span, including children, adolescents, and adults.  He has a particular interest in treating anger and aggression as a primary presentation.  Other specialties include ADHD, depression anxiety, and stress management.  

PictureSean Woll, LMHC
Sean Woll, LMHC obtained his Master's degree in Mental Health Counseling from Adelphi University in 2009. He has experience in a multiple settings including inpatient psychiatric, outpatient day program, residential treatment, and private practice, Mr. Woll also enjoys lecturing at his Alma mater, St. Joseph's College.  He completed advanced training in couples counseling through Adelphi University's Derner Institute and attends various workshops throughout the year to stay current in the field. His specialties include couples counseling as well as anxiety, depression, life stress, behavioral issues, and trauma.  Mr. Woll utilizes an integrated approach including Psychodynamic Treatment, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Dialectical Behavioral Skills Training.

Riley is a 6 year old Black Labrador who is a trained service dog for East Coast Assistance Dogs. Riley works with his human companion Cathy Menzies, a Licensed Clinical Social worker. He currently serves as a therapy dog for South Shore Psychology as well as a NYS Special Education school. Riley’s specialty is assisting with children with emotional and behavioral issues.

Riley has experience attending in clinical sessions, and participating in classroom activities and special school events. Through his calm, friendly demeanor Riley helps Cathy promote improvements in social, emotional, and cognitive abilities.  When Riley is not hard at work, he likes to enjoy a cookie or two and spend time with his best friend, Sylvester the cat. 


Animal Assisted therapy has been demonstrated to have positive effects for children on changing behavior, promoting social interactions, enhancing communication, creating a sense of responsibility and improved ability to participate in therapeutic treatments. For adults, animal assisted therapy can decrease feelings of loneliness, and reduce general anxiety amongst other benefits.

As of January 1, 2022,all healthcare providers are required to provide estimates for the cost of care for all clients not utilizing health insurance.  The Good Faith Estimate shows the cost of any items and services that are reasonably expected for your healthcare needs and treatment.  This will be provided by the office upon scheduling and/or as requested.  This Good Faith estimate does not include unexpected costs that could arise during treatment.  Learn more here.
