As young adults, we experience some pretty big life changes and decisions. No one tells you that the day after you throw your caps up in the air the GPS system goes offline and you are now expected to navigate the world with no more than a compass and a map of the stars. Somehow from the moment you graduate High School there is an expectation to figure out your goals and your life. Dealing with this enormous task leaves many young adults feeling lost, worried, and under pressure.
We know that feeling lost as a young adult has nothing to do with your intelligence or potential to succeed. In fact, sometimes it is because you are intelligent and care about your future that these decisions become so challenging. To add to this, it may be difficult to have time to think in the middle of studying, working, dealing with family relationships, or experiencing other changes such as moving, dating or break-ups, finding your identity, losing connections with friends, or trying to build new connections.
Sometimes you may feel that, even with all of these challenges, you should have it figured out. You may feel like your peers are moving at the “right pace” and you’re being left behind. The stress of comparing yourself to others can be overwhelming, isolating, and exhausting. You may be thinking, “Should I put myself out there? Are others going to judge me? Is there really anything I can do to stop feeling this way?” Maybe meeting others who may feel the same way as you doesn’t seem like a possibility. But you would be surprised by how many young adults feel the same way as you!

You see, young adulthood can feel a lot like being lost in the woods and trying to follow a trail of bread crumbs. Viewing things from a heightened perspective that includes your true values and dreams can help you feel better about the path you are traveling and help you feel more confident about which way to turn. Each person is different, but we are all trying to input our new GPS to "happiness." We begin by planting our feet on solid ground and figuring out together how to be true to ourselves in this everchanging world.
